Our Story

The J. Rose Project aims to encourage strength & individuality by affirming to each girl that she is strong, fierce, and brilliant in mind, body, and spirit. One of the ways that we do this is through our annual Summit.

Seventy percent of girls in Chicago believe they are not good enough or do not measure up in some way, including their looks, performance in school, and relationships with friends and family members.

Nearly half of Chicago teen girls reported engaging in negative activities, such as eating disorders or dangerous sexual behavior and Chicago ranked #1 in teenagers with the highest number of STDs in 2015.

In view of these alarming statistics,The J. Rose Project creates a positive, supportive, & empowering network where girls discuss the social issues that shape & impact their growth into womanhood!

The Summit is the fruit of the hands of an awesome team of women who have committed time and energy year after year in the service of Brown & Black girls!

This team of young and successful women of color were attracted to the vision & contribute to its success.
